Welcome to the Women’s Health Department! The Department has a team of outstanding OB/GYN providers, including physicians and certified nurse midwives. We offer a range of services to help women in all stages of their lives. From prenatal visits to postpartum care to family planning, female patients at DotHouse Health can expect friendly and caring service.
Services we offer include:
- Family planning, including IUD and Nexplanon insertions and removals

How do I make an appointment for Women’s Health?
You can make an appointment for Women’s Health by calling the Appointments line at 617-740-2320. If you have any questions, you can speak to a Women’s Health Nurse by calling 617-740-2404.
I have questions or concerns about birth control, my relationship, I need Emergency Contraception (Plan B), I need to get a pregnancy test, or I want to get tested for a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STDs).
We are here to help you. We have a Family Planning Counselor who is available to help you decide what birth control option is best for you. They will support you around concerns about your relationship, provide Emergency Contraception, administer pregnancy tests, and connect you with other services in the health center. You can contact the Family Planning Counselor at 617-740-2339. You can also call the Women’s Health Nurse at 617-740-2404 with questions or to book an appointment with the Family Planning department.
DotHouse Health also provides rapid HIV/STD testing in our Urgent Care Department 7 days per week. Urgent Care offers walk-in appointments on a first-come, first-serve basis.
How often do I need a Pap smear?
Pap smears are a screening tool to look for cervical cancer. Recent guidelines recommend that most women get a Pap smear every 3-5 years, instead of every year. If you have a history of normal Pap smears or have average risk, here are the basic guidelines for how often you need a Pap:
Under 21 years old: No Pap needed
21-29 years: Every 3 years
30+ years old: Every 5 years
65+ years old: Talk to your Provider to find out what is right for you
Women with higher risk may need more frequent Pap smears. Pap smears do not test for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). You should still schedule a physical exam and STD testing every year.
What are my options for prenatal care at DotHouse Health?
We understand that you have many options for prenatal care and we appreciate your considering us. We offer choices so you can have the experience that makes sense for you. You can choose to receive your prenatal care with a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) or a Family Practice Doctor (MD). You can also choose to deliver your baby at either Boston Medical Center (BMC) or Brigham & Women’s Hospital (BWH).
If you decide to deliver at BMC, you can choose to receive care with either a Certified Nurse Midwife or a Medical Doctor. If you choose to deliver at BWH, you will receive care with our Certified Nurse Midwife. You will see the same provider throughout your entire pregnancy. You will receive exceptional prenatal care at DotHouse Health regardless of which hospital you choose.
I have concerns about my pregnancy. Who should I call?
Women’s Health Nurses are available to answer your calls any time the health center is open. Please feel free to call the Women’s Health Department directly at 617-740-2404. You will be connected to a Women’s Health Nurse. If you have a question or concern that can’t wait until the health center is open, please call the midwife on call at the hospital where you are going to be having the baby.
